3 Days Berber Villages Trek

Departing from Marrakech — Imlil and Aït Irir

The Berber Villages Trek uses the same Imlil trailhead as the Toubkal summit route but takes a completely different path: rather than ascending to the high ridges, this three-day circuit loops through the traditional Berber communities of the Azzadene and Aït Mizane valleys at altitudes between 1,700m and 3,000m. Your private vehicle departs Marrakech in the morning and the 90-minute drive to Imlil passes through the lower Atlas foothills before the road ends at the village registry.

Unlike the summit-focused Toubkal treks, the Berber Villages route is cultural as much as physical: overnight stays in village guesthouses (rather than mountain huts), meals prepared by Berber families, and walks through terraced barley fields and walnut orchards that have been worked by the same families for generations. The pace is gentle by trekking standards — 4-6 hours of walking per day, without the extreme altitude gain of the Toubkal summit approach.

This trek is best suited to travellers who want Atlas Mountain scenery and Berber culture without the physical challenge of the 4,000m summit.
